PC Convertible - 5140

General Information

The IBM PC Convertible - the poorest selling portable computer at the time!

Notes:

Why did the machine sell so poorly? Because IBM was not paying attention to the marketplace. At the time, companies like Compaq were developing and releasing 286 portables - with optional hard disks.

This machine, however, was not impossible to upgrade. You "snap-on" upgrades to the rear of the machine. Have a look at the Rear View and notice the add-on serial port.

Still, due to its poor sales, this machine has become notorious and is therefore collectible.
